LCpl Bruce Ferrell, Jr.
Bruce Earnest Ferrell grew up in Perdido, Alabama, which is the kind of small community where everyone knows your name. After graduating from Baldwin County High School in 2006, Bruce didn’t wait long to be part of something bigger than himself. Within a year, he joined the United States Marine Corps.
Assigned to Company F, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Bruce deployed to Afghanistan in May 2009 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was only 21 years old, but a Marine through-and-through, serving with the courage and commitment that title demands.
On August 10, 2009, in Garmsir, Afghanistan, Bruce passed while conducting combat operations in service to his country.
He is survived by his parents, his brother, and his sister, all of whom carry his memory forever. Bruce will always be remembered for the passion he brought to everything he did, his relentless work ethic, and his unwavering commitment to serving his country. Though he is gone, his spirit remains and will be carried on in the hearts of those who keep his memory alive.
